Drawings play a vital role in the design patent application.Every design patent application must include a drawing which gives the visual disclosure of the claim. It is very important that the drawing must be clear and complete. Also, the drawings must comply with the disclosure requirements of patent law.

Drawings must include sufficient number of views and also should be in black color on white background including the drawing figure number. In rare cases we can use Color drawings but, we must include a written statement of why we used the color drawings and its necessity.

The drawing should be provided with the right surface shading which shows clearly the character and contour of all surfaces of any three-dimensional aspects of the design.It is also necessary to distinguish between any open and solid areas using the surface shading.
